Vacationing in Mildura

IMG_0807

The morning after our first day on the fig farm we still could not make up our minds if we should work or not, but decided to get up and ready at 5am anyway. But, after someone looked out the window and saw it was raining cats and dogs they called and were told that work that day would be cancelled. Annie and I just looked at each other and both read it as a sign that the fig picking days are over and it’s time to have fun.

The way we see is this- we’ve paid to get out here and for the next 6 nights, and everyone else in the house is in the exact same boat as us. Why not stay?

The last week has actually turned out to be worth the trip (despite the fact that the whole reason of coming out here was to work). We feel like we’re finally on vacation! Everyday we’ve gone swimming in the Murray River, walked around town, and have hung out with those in the house. We’ve really gotten to know everyone well over the last week. Here are some pictures from our time here. (Sorry, no fig pictures!)

The gang walking down to the river playing volleyball. A little ironic because we’re in the middle of a desert.

British boys Scott (left) and Andy (right) showing us their guns. Andy was funny because he afterwards asked, “Do I look quite big?”

Maybe later I’ll post videos of everyone diving off the dock into the river or Andy giving us a tutorial of how to eat properly (Americans v. Brits)
